  • Fabio Borini says he wasted time at Liverpool after turning down a £14million move to Sunderland last summer.
The Italian eventually joined the Black Cats in a £7.75m deal last week having appeared for just 200 minutes during the entirety of last season.
Borini had backed himself to make an impact at Anfield, but leaves with just eight starts and two Premier League goals for the Reds after signing from Roma for £10.5m in 2012.

The 24-year-old – who enjoyed a season-long loan at Sunderland two years ago - said: ‘I wasted too much time - not because I wanted to waste it, or deserved to waste it, I just wasted it.
‘That's why I came back to a place where I have been loved, and still feel the love from the supporters.’
Borini, who was frozen out of the first-team picture at Anfield, added: ‘It was really upsetting to train on my own.
‘It was the killer that led me to leave Liverpool. I always gave everything for the club, and I showed that on the pitch and in training. Everyone knows within that club that I did everything and never complained.’

And Borini has explained why he rejected a move back to the North East 12 months ago.
‘It was a case of a situation which wasn’t under my control because of many people around me,’ he said.
‘I couldn’t make the right decision and I didn’t have the solution under my control.
‘When you can’t control your future you can’t be blamed for something that didn’t happen.
‘Every player wants to play Champions League football, but, as I said, I couldn’t make that decision because I was never put in a place to make that decision.’
