Lesbian Couple Sues Hawaiian Police For Arresting Them Over A Kiss


Cop Reportedly Saw Them Being Affectionate And Sprung Into ActionCourtney Wilson, 25 and Taylor Guererro, 21, were vacationing in Hawaii earlier this year when a police officer arrested them for kissing in a grocery store.

The Los Angeles natives filed a federal lawsuit on Tuesday claiming that Officer Bobby Harrison confronted and arrested them back on March 3 when he saw them walking through Foodland hugging and kissing, and, according to the lawsuit, ordered the couple to “take it somewhere else.” When Harrison observed them being affectionate again, he threatened to have them tossed from the store,

then allegedly grabbed Wilson’s arm when she tried to call 911 on him. The suit claims both were tossed to the ground and Wilson was punched in the face, then both women were allegedly held down and zip tied.

Both were arrested and charged with felony assault of an officer and ended up sleeping in a public park during the six months it took to resolve the case; the charges were later dropped. The Honolulu Police Department opened an investigation into the incident on Wednesday
School Resource Officer Ben Fields Defends His Actions
Shortly after Fields was fired on Wednesday for dragging a student across the floor at Spring Valley High School on Monday, an attorney for Fields released a statement about the incident. The statement says, in part:

“We believe that Mr. Fields’ actions were justified and lawful throughout the circumstances of which he was confronted during this incident. To that extent, we believe that Mr. Fields’ actions were carried out professionally and at that he was performing his job duties within the legal threshold.”

Attorney Scott J. Hayes said Fields will not comment on the particulars now due to the civil rights investigation into the case.
House Approves Budget, Ryan Takes His Seat After once again going to the brink of a possible government shutdown, the House voted 266-167 on Wednesday to approve a budget deal that raises the nation’s debt ceiling through March 2017, booting the issue until after the 2016 presidential election. The deal is the final one overseen by outgoing House Speaker John Boehner, who will turn over the gavel to Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan on Thursday (Oct. 29). After initially refusing the gig, Ryan is slated to be installed as the 62nd Speaker of the House, where he will try to manage a small group of fellow Republicans who are determined to halt any progress on new legislation.
Quick Take 1: CNN brings us the story of Hassan Abdo Ahmed Mohammed, his wife and their four children, a Kurdish family who fled the Syrian civil war only to land in a bureaucratic nightmare in the Moscow airport. The Russian government claims their visas are fake, but they can’t go home, so the family has set up camp in the airport for the past 50 days until their lawyer works through the legal nightmare. With just an air mattress and food supplied by UNICEF, the family has put up a hand-written sign that says, “Please don’t touch our thing (sic) becaus (sic) www are living here.”
Quick Take 2: Former St. Paul’s prep school student Owen Labrie, 20, could learn if he’ll do prison time on Thursday. A judge is expected to sentence him for sexually assaulting a freshman at the elite New Hampshire prep school as part of the “Senior Salute,” a tradition that encourages seniors to have sexual encounters with as many young women as possible. Labrie claimed during trial that his encounter with a 16-year-old female student was consensual and didn’t involve intercourse, which contradicted the woman’s testimony. A lawyer for Labrie says his client — who faces a lifetime as a registered sex offender and the loss of his dream of attending Harvard University — has suffered enough and should be sentence to probation; prosecutors haven’t said what sentence they are seeking.
