When YouTuber Carl James Brooks heard his sick mother would be getting a long-awaited kidney transplant after years of dialysis, he was so happy. There was just one problem — he lives 4,000 miles away and visiting her seemed impossible.

Brooks now lives in Germany, but the rest of his family lives in Atlanta, Georgia. Thanks to the help of a family friend, he was able to arrange a flight to see his mother before she went under. In a new video, Brooks also mentions that the whole visit was a surprise for his entire family, saying, “It all happened so quickly, we forgot to tell my family that I was coming,” in the video.
Once Brooks landed and made his way to Emory Hospital in Atlanta, he filmed his family’s emotional reactions. When his sister arrives at the hospital later on, there’s yet another cute surprise moment — she doesn’t even realize that James is even in the room for a few seconds and when she does, the family is all in tears again.
