Sunshine Stars Coach Boboye Resigns

After his team’s failure to clinch a continental ticket at the just concluded Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), Kennedy Boboye has quit as coach of Sunshine Stars.
“I will like to inform you that I have stepped down as coach of Sunshine Stars,” Boboye told Goal.
“No regrets for the decision having helped the team finish well in the just concluded season. This has nothing to do with our inability to qualify for the Confederation Cup.
“For me, a new start seems to be the best solution for all parties and I believe the next manager will benefit from the structure I left behind.
“I will like to thank the Ondo state Football Agency for giving me the privilege to manage the team after my heart. Appreciation also to my technical crew, players and teeming fans of Sunshine Stars for standing by me throughout my stay.
“Wishing the team all the best in the Nigeria Premier League next season and I believe they have all it takes to win the league next season,” he concluded.
Also addressing newsmen, Wahab Bankole, Media Officer of Sunshine Stars FC, Akure, on Tuesday, November 17, said missing the continental ticket was the most painful aspect of the 2014/2015 Globacom Premier League season.
According to Bankole, there were lessons to be learnt from the performance of the team in the just concluded season.
“Remember in 2012/2013 season, Sunshine Stars escaped relegation by whiskers. In 2013/2014 season we finished eleventh on the log, and in this just concluded season, we finished sixth.
“By and large, it was an improvement every year.
“It was just a disappointment that the team led the log for almost 20 weeks and the desired results could not be achieved,” he said.
Sunshine Stars finished in sixth place on the final standings despite their blistering start to the season.
The Akure based team had been in sparkling form all season but gave up to pressure when it mattered most.
They were denied a continental ticket on the final day of the 2015 NPFL season by eventual winners, Enyimba FC after a 0-0 draw at Teslim Balogun stadium.
The League Management Company (LMC) had earlier banned Sunshine Stars fromhosting league games for a year following the unruly behaviour of the club’s fans, who stormed the pitch and attacked match officials in league clash against Lobi Stars.
