Cote’d Ivoire complete sprint double over Nigeria

Cote’d Ivoire yesterday denied Nigeria a share of the sprint medals by winning the men and women 200m of the African Games.

Koffi Wilfred Hua with 20.42 seconds clinched the gold, leaving Divine Oduduru and Odele Tega to comfort themselves with the silver and bronze respective. Oduduru, however gave the Ivorian a good fight, but Hua just took it on the line, Oduduru ran 20.45 seconds, while Odele finished 20.58. The women race took a similar fashion.
Marie Josee Talou beat Ngozi Onwumere and Loretta Ozoh to the gold to win a sprint double. The petite Ivorian ran 22.57, while Onwumere finished 23. 34, Ozoh took the bronze with 23.37 seconds. Talou and Ben Youssef Meite had won the 100m races for Cote’d Ivoire.
In the 400m women hurdles, Amaka Ogoegbulam finished 55.57 seconds to win the gold. National record holder, Ajoke Odumosu who continued with her hard climb back to form, settled for silver.
Nigeria has won seven gold medals so far out 11 gold medals targeted by athletics officials. The men and 4x400m relays are up next.
