[News] FG Promise 21 states with N5bn for road repairs

ABUJA—Twenty-one states are to be refunded money spent on the repairs of federal roads, the National Economic Council, NEC, said yesterday.
This was as the council revealed that proceeds from the Excess Crude Account, ECA, has increased to $2.257 billion by September 15.

The states, which were however not mentioned, were said to have made a claim of N535.5 billion.
Governor Abiola Ajumobi of Oyo State, flanked by his colleagues from Kano and Delta states yesterday, said only 13 states had fully complied with the requirements, while eight had done so partially.
He said: “As listed here, we have 13 states that have fully complied with the reimbursement requirements.
“We have eight states that have partially complied, while 21 states are without compliance. The total sum of claims to be reimbursed is exactly N535.5 billion.
“Then we have N13 billion that has been disbursed to the states already as at 2013. The challenges they faced had to do with inadequate funding in the ministry, and lastly we discussed the issues of the current and future agricultural policy direction.
“They made a very lucid presentation and it was extensively discussed. They gave us information on the data base of farmers in proceeds production capacity of food.”
He said the Adams Oshiomhole sub-committee set up by NEC to investigate the remittances of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, discovered that government revenue-generating agencies were not transparent.
