The Super Eagles striker Odion Ighalo took his Premier League goals tally to four after scoring a first-half brace for Watford in Saturday’s 2-1 win away at Newcastle United.
The Nigerian international, who earned a recall to the national team for next month’s friendly matches against Congo and Cameroun in Belgium opened scoring in the tenth minute and doubled his lead 18 minutes later. It was Ighalo’s sixth appearance this season.
Ighalo has now scored 20 goals in 2015, the most by any player in all four divisions of English football.
At Stamford Bridge MIkel Obi made a cameo appearance for Chelsea who defeated nine-man Arsenal 2-0. The Nigerian international who has made three appearances this season replaced Cesc Fabregas in the 90th minute.
Victor Moses opened scores for West Ham in the 10th minute, setting the tone for a famous win over title favourites at the Etihad as Manchester City suffered their first loss of the season 1-2.
Record signing Kevin De Bruyne marked his first start for City with a fine finish on the stroke of half-time but there was no further way through for Manuel Pellegrini’s men as away goalkeeper Adrian and some desperate defending repelled persistent second-half pressure.
The victory moves West Ham up to second place, three points behind their beaten opponents at the summit.
