Umana Umana has congratulated President Muhammadu Buhari and other Nigerians on the 55thindependence anniversary of the country. The All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate for the April elections in Akwa Ibom State, in a statement, noted that Nigerians have a lot to celebrate this year.
He said despite several negative predictions, Nigeria held elections and voted in a president who he said will change the country’s fortunes. He said this anniversary was symbolic for the country, not just because it has a new president, but that it has started witnessing remarkable changes.
‘‘I congratulate Nigerians on this Independence anniversary. It is not an easy feat to attain 55 years of age. It is particularly noteworthy especially when viewed against the background of challenges that this country has faced in the past year. We, as a country should be very proud of what we have achieved’’, he said.
The candidate used the opportunity to commend President Muhammadu Buhari on the success recorded so far in the fight against insurgency. He noted that since Buhari assumed office, the morale of the military has been boosted, leading to a remarkable change in the fight against insurgency.
‘’The no-nonsense posture of President Buhari is having positive impact in all sectors of the economy. The military is performing a lot better now, and soon even this issue of corruption will be tackled. All Buhari needs is the support of all. Criticism should be based on facts; unnecessary criticism will not help the administration or country.
We must know that Nigeria belongs to all of us and it is our duty to work for its growth. We must discourage anything that will cause disharmony in the country’’, he said.
He also called on youths in the country to work hard to contribute their quota to the nation’s growth. He urged them to take their education seriously, as that is the bedrock of development in any society.
‘‘Youths have a lot to offer, but for their potentials to be fully harnessed, they have to been given opportunities to showcase themselves’’, he said.
Umana, who is currently at the tribunal challenging the conduct of the election and declaration of Udom Emmanuel as governor of Akwa Ibom State, said, now more that ever his confidence in the judiciary is unshaken. He said he is optimistic of victory. He said he is not afraid of anything as, according to him, his legal team was able to prove that elections did not hold in his state.
