Obasa, who is a member of Peoples Democratic Party admonished them to follow the positive footstep of the immediate leadership headed by Prof Attahiru Jega who led the INEC to greatness during his tenure.
The INEC National Commissioners are Prof Mahmood Yakubu (INEC Chairman), Mrs Amina Zakari, Dr Anthonia Okoosi Simbine , Alhaji Baba Shettima Arfo, Dr Mohammed Mustafa Leacky and Mr Soyebi Solomon.
In a statement released by his media office on Thursday, the lawmaker pleaded with Nigerians to be focused, to remain steadfast and to continue to support the organization with the needed advice for them to be able to conduct free and fair elections.
The statement reads ” In the past Nigerians never believed in the leadership of Independent National Electoral Commission but with the emergence of Umaru Yaradua / Goodluck Jonathan led administration in 2007, a new chapter begun with the restructuring of the electoral process to meet the yearning of the people”
“Good governance starts from the polling booths, hence INEC is a very important commission as far as government is concerned. Series of litigation in court after election is not healthy for democracy. A perfect system is hard to achieve but a near perfect would be good for the political stakeholders to accept defeat”
In the same vein,Obasa appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari as a matter of necessity to appoint an individual from the South East to ensure the six geo-political zones are adequately represented.
