A NIGHT WHEN FOOTBALL IS SECONDARY
England and France will unite on Tuesday night to remember the
terror atrocities that unfolded in Paris on Friday, claiming the lives
of 129 people. The Wembley arch will shine red, white and blue, while
the words of La Marseillaise – the French national anthem – will be
beamed on to screens to help fans join in.

Blasts outside the Stade de France during France’s friendly with
Germany were felt inside the stadium, prompting the world champions to
spend the night on mattresses inside the changing rooms. The French
refused to leave until their opponents felt safe to do so, thus both
sides stayed confined in a tremendous act of solidarity.
France midfielder Lassana Diarra lost his cousin in the attacks, while the sister of compatriot Antoine Griezmann
escaped unhurt from the mass killing at the Bataclan theatre. Both
players remain with the French squad, and could feature at Wembley.
TEAM NEWS
England have been racked by injuries ahead of the friendly. Manchester City midfielder Fabian Delph, who played in England's 2-0 defeat to Spain in Alicante last Friday, was recently ruled out making him the 16th regular squad member to be unavailable. Manchester United forward Jesse Lingard has been called up for the first time and Tottenham's Ryan Mason has also been added to the squad.
All 23 members of the France squad - including Diarra and Griezmann - will fly to England. France coach Didier Deschamps
offered his players the chance to pull out of the squad for Tuesday's
match against England in London if they did not feel up to it.
PRE-MATCH QUOTES
Roy Hodgson: "I'm
not sure how to balance enormity of occasion with questions about
players and a football match. There will be six players under the age of
22 and today we've lost (Fabian) Delph. That shows you how young the
team will be. We are in a difficult situation and we're playing against a
very good team. I'm sure these players won't let the country down but
I'm sure the game will be a lot more about showing solidarity."
Wayne Rooney: "I
think football globally does a lot for the world. Everyone as a unit,
the world as one. The world of football has to stay strong together. I'm
sure everyone will do that as best as we know how to do."
Didier Deschamps: "It will be much more than a
sports event. We are here to represent our country and show that we are
proud to be French in a historical stadium and I want to thank the
English fans for their messages of solidarity. It will be an emotional
game."
