Dignitaries Converge At The 10th Wole Soyinka Awards

Former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Attahiru Jega, and veteran broadcaster, Bimbo Oloyede, will be getting the anti-corruption defender award and award for journalistic excellence respectively.

According to the Wole Soyinka centre for investigative journalism, the choice of Attahiru Jega for this years’ award is based on the outstanding role he played in the success of the 2015 general elections while Bimbo Oloyede will be awarded for her immense contribution to the journalism profession.
Jega appreciated the organisation for finding him worthy of the award said, “Such an honour from a centre named after the great and revered Wole Soyinka is of considerable significance.”

Oloyede who celebrated her forty years in broadcasting was full of appreciation for the choice stating that it would place her on the same pedestal with past winners “who are individuals who have made great contributions to journalism in Nigeria.”
“From my interaction with the centre, it is clear that a lot of good work is being done to uplift our craft…nothing would give me more pleasure than to accept the centre’s kind recognition and honour,” she added.

This years’ event which is the tenth in its series is slated for Wednesday, December 9, at the Muson centre, Lagos will also see twelve finalists receive commendations and awards in different categories at the prize presentation ceremony.
In commemoration of this years’ human rights day, the institute will also host a public viewing of its documentary, ‘Report Women: the untold stories of girls and women in Nigeria’ on Thursday 10 December, 2015 by 12:30 p.m at the Silver Bird Galleria in the Ikeja Mall, Alausa, Ikeja to help end every form of violence against girls and women in the country.
