With a different league comes a different challenge - but more importantly, a fresh start. Now, the recipient of a clean and pastures new is former England striker, Carlton Cole.
The 32-year-old plied his trade at Upton Park until his nine-year stay came to an end this summer. His time with the Hammers saw Cole amass 259 appearances, finding the net 57 times.
His other former clubs include Watford and Aston Villa. The powerful centre-forward was sent on loan to Vicarage Road and Villa Park during the early parts of his career at Chelsea whilst also a member of Jose Mourinho's Premier League title-winning squad in the 2005/2006 season.
Now, a new challenge awaits in the form of Scottish champions, Celtic.
Having spent all of his career in London, it appears Cole has a certain determination about him to finish his career on a high in Glasgow, a fact that will excite Hoops fans
When asked about his switch to the far North, Cole stated:
"When Celtic called me and said they wanted me, I just ran over. Being at Celtic isn't about the money - it's about wearing the shirt with pride.
"Celtic are in a great position to win trophies and I want to add that to my career."
Great enthusiasm from the ex-Aston Villa man it seems, but with Ronny Deila's favoured 4-2-3-1 formation, can he make it past free-scoring Leigh Griffiths into the starting eleven?
Griffiths has been flying so far this campaign and with 13 goals already, it's safe to say getting past him and into the regular striking spot will be a tough challenge.
However, given Cole's experience in the Premier League - one of the toughest leagues in the world - he should be confident of pushing his way into the frame at Parkhead.
The promise of European football is a worthy attraction to the best of players, so, with Cole on his way to the Bhoys - it could be a sign they can still attract big names to the SPL.
