Newspaper Review: Dokpesi, Bafarawa, Dasuki Quizzed

The five newspapers under review today Wednesday, December 2, have the issue of the Raymond Dokpesi’s arrest as their major focus.
On the front page of The Nation, the major headline is – ‘$2bn arms deals: Bafarawa, Dasuki, Dokpesi arrested’.
The paper reports that the founder, proprietor and former chairman of Daar Communications, over illegal collection of monies amounting to billions of dollars and the arms procurement issues respectively.
It reports that after a month’s siege to his Abuja home and legal fireworks, the former Dasuki was yesterday, Tuesday, December 1, arrested by the Department of State Service and would be handed over to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Dokpesi was picked up for allegedly collecting N2.1billion from the Office of the NSA. Bafarawa allegedly got N100million cash.

For Vanguard, on the same arrest issue, it has its major headline thus: ‘$2bn arms deal: DSS arrests Dasuki, Bafarawa’.
On its report, more Nigerian politicians believed to have benefitted from the huge security budget said to be missing were, yesterday, arrested and detained by the EFCC.
Bafarawa and Dokpesi were among the latest to be questioned by the security agents for allegedly receiving huge sums of money from the office of the embattled Dasuki.
Dasuki was taken from his Asokoro home in a pre-dawn raid by operatives of the DSS ahead of possible arraignment for breach of public trust and money laundering.

With ‘DSS clamps ex-NSA Dasuki in detention’ as its major headline being accompanied by the rider ‘As EFCC quizzes Dokpesi’, the Daily Sun reports that Dokpesi, who allegedly played a prominent role in the failed re-election bid of the former president Goodluck Jonathan reported at EFCC’s headquarters for questioning yesterday afternoon.
Dokpesi was reported to have allegedly played a key role in the purchase of arms for the army in the fight against insurgency. It was gathered that N2.1 billion was reportedly paid into his account.

On the front page of The Punch newspaper, the major headline is: ‘PDP kicks as EFCC arrests Dokpesi, ex-governor Bafarawa’. It reports that the EFCC also launched a manhunt for a former national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mohammed Haliru Bello, in connection with some diverted arms cash.
Haliru Bello who is also a former minister of Defence was said to have had a hand in the arms funds. It was also in connwction to this that his son, Abba Mohammed, was arrested on Monday, November 30.
However, reacting to the arrest news, Dokpesi’s lawyer, Mike Ozekhome, denied that the former AIT chairman was arrested stressing that he was just invited for questioning.
